Sealant and silicone off while it is fresh
Most sealant mess happens in the seconds after you tool a joint: a smear on the frame, a bead on the glass, residue on the sealant gun and the spatula. A wipe takes fresh sealant and silicone off straight away, before it skins over.
Typical jobs on site:
- excess sealant beside a joint on a window frame or worktop
- silicone on tiles, sanitary ware and glass after finishing a joint
- the nozzle and body of the sealant gun
- jointing tools and spatulas between joints
- aluminium profiles, gutters and flashing
Expanding foam and adhesive on frames and tools
Fresh expanding foam sticks to everything around a frame. Catch it while it is still wet and a wipe takes it off the frame, the sill and the foam gun. The same goes for construction adhesive and glue residue on profiles, panels and tools.
Once foam or sealant has cured, a wipe will not lift it. Cut or scrape off the hardened material first; the wipe then cleans up the residue that is left.
Trade wipes for sites without water
On many sites the nearest tap is a long way off, or there is none at all. The wipes need no water, soap or rinsing, so you clean at the scaffold, on the roof or in the new-build apartment where you are working. The dispenser weighs about 1 kg and fits in the van or the toolbox.
Close the lid after every wipe. An open dispenser loses moisture, and dry top wipes work less well.
Used wipes on site
Collect used wipes with sealant, foam or adhesive on them in the waste container meant for them, following the rules of the main contractor or the site.
On site, step by step
- 01Clean while the sealant, foam or adhesive is still fresh.
- 02Take a wipe and click the dispenser lid shut.
- 03Wipe the residue away from the joint, so you do not drag it into the finished bead.
- 04For cured material, cut or scrape it off first and wipe up what remains.
- 05Use a fresh wipe for the last traces.
- 06Put used wipes in the site waste according to the rules.
What the wipes do
- Remove fresh sealant and silicone from frames, tiles and glass
- Take fresh expanding foam off frames, sills and the foam gun
- Clean construction adhesive and glue residue off profiles and tools
- Clean sealant guns, spatulas and jointing tools
- Work on site without water
What they do not do
- They are not meant for use on the skin
- They do not dissolve cured sealant or hardened foam
- They do not replace cutting or scraping on cured material
- They are not for painted or coated profiles without a test first
